If anyone on this hellsite makes their own patterns (specifically 3d ones like plushies) do yall have any tips? I have no idea what I’m doing and google isn’t giving me much of a starting spot lol like how do you decide where to separate the pattern pieces?

Starlight express cosplayers/costume knowers, can someone explain Pearl’s skirt to me !!?

(Japan tour pictures cause she’s the pearl I’m cosplaying)
I’m trying to make my Pearl cosplay handmade enough to submit into convention contests so I’m trying to sew the leggings, skirt, and observation panel as well as craft the belt, shoulders, and protective gear! Now I’ve made patterns for the shoulders, belt, and observation panel and I’ve got patterns for the leggings but I cannot even begin to figure out the skirt!! First off, I can’t figure out what type of skirt it would be considered, second I also can’t figure out how to even start patterning it…

i made these wide trousers recently, they are out of linen and the pattern is a slightly modified 1890s cycling bloomers pattern that i modified to have a higher waist and i made them full length instead of knee length and didn’t add a fitted cuff to the hem. my only issue really is that i wish i had lined them with some thin linen, just to add some body and structure to them, they are a little too drapy for my taste as they are.
on a different note, i went to take these pictures of them and it was really warm so i had taken off my shirt and only had the sports bra on, i expected to not really like the pictures that much and take more with shirt on but no! i actually really like how i look in these pictures, and i’m feeling dysphoric about my shoulders like i usually do in my bra. and i think it’s the trousers that are really good at accentuating my hips so my shoulders don’t look so wide in comparison which is what gets me so dysphoric about them.
anyway, i’m really happy and i don’t really experience euphoria often, if at all, so this was a really good and rare moment for me

Fun fact: because of my weird disability stuff I can't wear normal underwear because I can't wear elastic waistbands or anything but overalls most days. This has led me to start designing myself a modern chemise
Update pending

all the undergarments are done! ah, this is a momentous occasion. Its so good to get a look at how the actual silhouette of this thing is going to be!
I feel like it looks like the petticoat kicks forward a lot in this picture, but it didnt actually seem to be in person- either way itll be compressed closer when theres another skirt on top of it. im actually really happy with how it came out in the end. I think it might kick up a fraction at the sides, but its not too bad! The volume feels like its in the right places to disguise everything underneath :) the pocket slits are also super easy to get into, but also not Too open, which was exactly the sweet spot i was aiming for.
(im asking yall to ignore i wrapped my waistbands the wrong way, also :) i also think im gonna knot my pocket hoops in the back in the future as its making a bit of a lump in front)
Also, as a bonus, i was seeing if there was better lighting anywhere else, and i got this picture i think is Super Cool, where you can see the hoops through the skirts

#ok im feeling it again :) its endless swinging over here right now#i think its gonna be worth it though#lady stede build#sewing#pattern making#cosplay#18th century fashion

so this top has like four parts to it an opaque as possible front a mesh back and mesh sleeves and a small underarm 'contrast' panel. it was worked in rows running up down and the back and first half of the front was worked as one continuous piece then the 2nd half of the front was worked onto the other side of the back then the sleeves were joined and worked in spirals. stitches used are 3rd loop only dc for the front with hdc sl st and sl st to make the decrease for the neck. the sleeves and back are double crochet mesh (the kind of granite stitch dc variation). the side panel was made with a combo of fpbpdc and hdc blo. the neckline (all around from back to front) was 'finished' with sc and sl st. and the hem of the top and the sleeves were finished with reverse sc. it took about 2 skeins of 200 g weight 3 yarn and a 4mm hook. oh and the coolest part is the sleeves are set in! i really want to share the pattern bc it's pretty simple except for when you get to the sleeves but wow pattern writing is hard cri. but dw i'll get arnd to it some time surely

Got a pattern for glisten down! still need to test it but I'm super happy! Can't wait to put it together and see how it goes. I still have to properly break down the pattern into a printable file but ill worry about that when i know the pattern works. Gotta also worry about his accessories but we're getting there!
More details under the cut!
decided to make glisten's foot in 3d to make a better pattern piece out of it, then sent it to adobe illustrator and traced it and adjusted it to make sure the pieces fit correctly. Gotta make sure it works though cause i only used plushify for 3d models, im worried it wont come out right
the rest is merely a matter of breaking down the pattern into front and back pieces so its pretty self explanatory.
besides that my main concern is making the joints functional but stable. theres also the thickness of the head compared to the body (since the body is only a front and back piece. but i imagine its an easy fix cause i can trim the side head piece. also the seam allowance might be too big but trimming should fix that.
already have the fabric ready for it too. I was gonna prototype it but im kinda impatient plus i imagine the adjustments ill need to do are minor so we ball.
im looking forward to finishing this project. Glisten is a huge comfort character to me and i wanted to make something that i can share with other fans and encourage sewing as a hobby. the pattern still needs some work i think but i look forward to sharing it with yall for free.
that said, please dont spread this around (yet) or try to profit off it. if you want to try out this pattern as it is right now, just be sure to credit me and let people know that pattern isnt finished and redirect them to this post (or some of my other ones) if they're curious. thanks yall
